Seattle to Astoria
Okay, I cheated.
The original plan was to make the trip entirely under my own motive power. But time constraints reared their ugly head. Come Monday, I was nowhere near ready to go. The whole family pitched in to get me out the door: De sewing pannier covers and booties, Christopher working on the bike and the computer case, Collin helping with tablet configuration. Still, it was Friday before I was somewhat ready to hit the road.
The five-day delay jeopardized my planned arrival in Michigan in time for my 50th high school reunion. So we ended up driving to Astoria, the actual start of the TransAmerica Trail. That saved three or four days of cycling, and almost got me back on schedule. And it was a chance for us to have a mini-vacation, if only for a single day. A little sightseeing and dinner at the Wet Dog made for a decent start to the trip - even if the beer sampler turned out to be a bad idea.
