Missoula #6

Day 28: Saturday, June 15, 2013
Missoula #6: 3 miles

Big accomplishment today: I finished reglazing three window panes.

Bruce is the silver-haired owner of the house I'm staying at. He has a nine-year-old son, Ben, who is a real livewire. Ben is into all the usual stuff that kids of his age do; but he's also an accomplished cyclist. He has a pint-sized racing bike. (And a mountain bike.) Today, Bruce took Ben to participate in a race about 90 minutes' drive from here. For Ben's age group, it was a 12-mile course.

The first thing Ben did when he got home was to show me the medal he had won. He is now the state champion in his age group.

Tomorrow, Bruce and Ben and a few others are going to drive three hours to Glacier National Park to ride Going-to-the-Sun Road before it is opened to cars. This is probably the last weekend that will be possible. I'd love to go with them, but - darn it all - that just wouldn't be the prudent thing to do, would it?
